Moo moo~~

Its already the 6th day of CNY. So fast! Tomorrow is the 7th day, or also known as 人日, which means its everyone's 'birthday' tomorrow, haha. Well usually have to eat yu sheng on this day, but already we have been eat yu sheng for like so many times this week. Well my interview is coming up next tues, gotta prepare for really hard for it if I want any chance of making it through. And I just got news from my dear mum that my uncle wants to hire me on a temp basis. I've no idea the terms and conditions are yet, only know that his company is bringing in some product, so its like a new project for him. And since I do not have a job now, he is asking if I want to help out. Well I don't mind helping out my relatives if they need me, but I really do have something against working for my relatives. Not something that I fancy. Because there will always be an invisible force that is limiting you. Erm, how should I put it. Well you know that you cannot slack at all, because you don't want people to talk behind your back (or your family's back), there is also a need for you to really excel in the job, maybe even 500 times more than any of the other employees because you don't want to throw your family's face away, and there will seem to be a greater expectation for you in your job. And of course, you cannot expect to negotiate your pay with them at all. These are the stress that comes together with the 'job', and it will really make working dreadful. So I always have my doubts about working long term for my relatives. I mean I don't mind those ad-hoc jobs that I've done for them previously, but to be a perm in the company is quite out of the question. Maybe in the future I might change my mindset on this, but not at the moment. Well, will have to call my uncle tomorrow to ask him about his offer.

牛年形大运

Its new year!!! Happy new year everybody. Yes I know that I've already said Happy New Year in my blog for like the last few postings, but 礼多人不怪what, hahaha. Health and wealth to everyone (esp myself, hahahaha). Saw this auspicious picture on another blog, which I thought is very cute, so I'm putting it here to share with everyone!

Happy 牛 Year!!!!

Its CNY eve today.... will be going to my grandma's place for reunion dinner later. Our dinner is just the simple steamboat affair + TV + mahjong. The usual stuff we do every year. This year, we're preparing the food! Most of the time my second aunt will help to buy food for my grandma, so we'll just eat those that she bought, but this year we thought that we should not let her buy the food all the time because its us who are eating, and we shouldn't trouble her. So we told them that we'll be buying the food. My mum of course, seem to have bought more than enough. I kept reminding her not to buy too much because we can't finish, but she just buy, and buy, and buy somemore, haiz. But I'm sure it'll be a great dinner.

Yesterday we went to my uncle's house for another reunion dinner (my mum's side). This year we made our own dinner at the club house (yes, steamboat again). Had a pretty fun time, and of course I'm like amazed by how much my little cousins know. The kids now really grow up much earlier. I mean I didn't know about things like making out, boobies, gays, homosexuals etc when I was 6. Haha, sometimes when you hear these stuff, you really do not know whether to laugh or to cry.

Well after dinner I got a urgent call from cy, he ask me to go down to a pub beside Mr Bean to celebrate DT's birthday. So I went down, and of course gulp down a few drinks, got high and attempted to go home after that. Yup, this sentence means that I was driving (Yes I know I should not be. Anyone reading this please remember do not drink and drive.) I was still sober enough to drive but if I did the breath test, I would have completely failed it. So I managed to get onto the expressway without meeting any cops, then as I was driving on the expressway, suddenly I see that the traffic is getting heavier. And I knew that something was wrong, and the immediate thing that came to my mind was 'road block'. Shit! I quickly wound down all my windows and started to take deep breadths hoping to get rid of the alcohol smell so that the cops would not test me. But I was also puzzled, because I was on the expressway, and never had the cops did their road block on the expressway. As the car inched towards the bottle neck, things slowly came to light. It was not a road block but an accident, and it was quite a big accident. 3 lanes had to be closed. As I drove pass the accident vehicle, I could see a blue cab that looks really badly damaged. In my heart I told myself 'heng ah' not road block, but a minute after that I felt a little guilty, because someone could have died in the accident. Well hopefully no one was hurt in the accident.

Once again, Happy 牛 Year!!!! Have a great year ahead!

Almost here

Very soon, the lunar new year will be here. A warm welcome to brother Ox, and goodbye to cousin Rat. Well I'm still waiting for replies to no avail. I've even applied to do fish trading. I think I've already sent more than 50 applications this time round, and I really do not know what to do now. Haiz, actually I do know.... just wait lor, haiz.

Well went to Chinatown again today with mama. Got our CNY stuff and goodies. We bought those CNY wall decos for our house, and sour plums (my mum's favourite), Taiwan jelly... etc (got most of the goodies ready at home already). This year is a pretty 'sad' year, it just doesn't feel as festive as its supposed to be. Chinatown more or less looks the same as last year. It seems that the shops that were here last year, are back this year. And the funny thing is that they seem to be in the exact same location as the previous year. Well probably because the economy is down now, so everyone is trying to scrimp a little. But anyway, we still have to enjoy ourselves and hope that the Golden Ox will be able to drive the bad luck away. Happy 牛 Year!!!! (oh yah, I want to bake my pineapple tarts, already got the pineapple ready, just need to make the tarts, haha... gotta remember to keep that in mind)

Cycling trip

Today I went cycling around Singapore. Okay, I didn't really go all around SG, I cycled all the way from my place to Chinatown, to the festive market. I also made a stopover at Raffles Place to meet up with Hanson & Brian for a 'break', haha.

Well I was at Chinatown looking for a 'parking lot' for my bicycle, but I could not find any. I continued searching, and I got to the carpark beside the Tooth Relic Temple. On the other end of the carpark, I saw an old man trying to cross the street, but because his legs were weak so he could not walk across, he had his butt on the floor, using his arms and feet to inch his way across. He had almost reached the other side and was just in front of a white van. I was looking at the van, because I felt that something was going to happen. I just had the very bad feeling inside me. I saw the 2 people in the van, as if they were about to move off, but the driver seem to have saw the old man, and was waiting for him to get across before leaving. Then he started his engine, but still he did not move, so I thought he was still waiting for the old man to finish crossing the road. Then suddenly he started to move his van, and everyone, including myself, started shouting at the driver to stop the van. But it was too late, the van had already cover more than half the man. Only the head of the guy was still out of the front of the van. We immediately ran over to try to lift the van, and get the man out, but it was too heavy. So we tried to only lift the portion that was on the man, and get the driver to reverse the van. Only then were we able to get the man out. And the man was immediately driven to the hospital for a checkup. Can you imagine what would have happened if the van just went over the poor guy. He'll just be flattened, totally. Luckily not serious happened, but it was the first big scare for 2009. Hopefully this year will be much better than the previous, with everyone healthy and strong.

Blew it away

So I did go for the interview today. And I basically blew it away. And it was only the first round. My question was "what is my greatest achievement", the question I really hated to answer. And after I answered the question, I knew in my heart that I would not make it through. There were a lot of people there though (as expected). Well thats that, now to look on and find new opportunities. Good luck!

Quitting.... or at least cutting down drastically

Most of you would probably know that I'm on smoke for a few years already, so in recent times, I've decided to reduce my intake as much as possible. I would not say impossible, but unlikely that I'll be able to give it up totally so soon because of the large number of my clicks how have this habit as well. So I thought that I will, on my part reduce my intake. Well, as it turns out, it is much harder than it turned out to be. I have no idea what an addict I have become already. All this time I've been telling myself that because I am not taking a lot, so it is not that difficult for me to let go when I want to. But now that I want to try to let a little of it go, my body is already rejecting this offer. Last night was terrible, I could not sleep well. I kept having constant thoughts of the stick, and my entire body just feel so numb (actually even till now, as I am typing, I'll still feeling it). My body keeps telling me to go get that stick, I'm trying hard to control it, but it really is difficult. So now I am sleepy and tired, but the stick feeling is still there. I hope I can win this battle. Wish me luck.

End of Jap class

My Jap classes officially end today. After 10 weeks of lessons, I have learnt the basics of the Japanese language. Not that I can really speak like a Jap now (I don't even sound anything like it), and I still have problems forming my sentences, so I gotta really work it if I want to make it work. Well I'm still contemplating whether to continue with my lessons for basic 2, and even if I do want to continue, do I want to stay with my current school. I like the Jap teacher, Reiko San, but I really do not fancy the other Singaporean teacher (er I think his name Mr Chen, don't remember also). His classes are really not very effective, at least for me, and I really do feel more like I'm in a translation class rather than a Japanese class. So I'm really not looking forward to continuing lessons with him. But let me look at my options again and see what other schools can offer as well.

JB again

Yesterday we went to JB yet again for our weekly dvd and games lookout. But this week we didn't really buy much, I mean when you go there every other week, you really don't see much new stuff all the time. But really the highlight of yesterday was the dinner. We went over to this resturant that DY's father had recommended (he went there the last time they did filming there). Actually all of them have been there before, other than me. And DY's father was around also, so we had a great time chatting, eating and drinking. The food came non stop, and the beer also came bottomless. Of course don't expect hard liquor like chivas or vodka, just simple beer, both Heinken and Stout. Only me, CY and DY's father was drinking, and we pratically finished 10 bottles, and that does not include the beers we had when we went into the owner's house.

The place was really nice and relaxing. Very rural and rustic feel, stationed just beside the sea, overlooking Pulau Ubin. And together with the kampong, old school decorations, it really sets out hearts at ease. The seafood was super fresh of course, we had prawns, crabs, fish, sotong, gong gong, la la... There was so much to eat, and just before we ended our session, the boss invited us to his house for braised wild boar meat. It was specially cooked for us because DY's father had called them earlier that we will be coming. The wild boar meat was really really good. It was not fat, the skin was very chewy, and the meat was so tender. The owners added another dish of fried fish (I have no idea was fish it was, but the fish was super fresh and super nice). Again we had another round of beer in the house listening to old school hokkien karaoke, the entire package was just terrific. We must really go back there again, there was huge discount, I mean after eating all that and the drinks, we only paid 50RM each, and that includes us treating DY's father to the meal. But I really think that if we can gather a larger number of people to go there together, it would be perfect. Of course DY's father was great company, his presence really do make the entire session nice. And of course, with him around we do get larger discounts, hahaha. Overall I rate yesterday's dinner 10 stars!!

At long last

I just got a call from DSTA asking me to go for an interview! Yeh!!! Finally after so many emails and resumes sent, finally I get some reply. Well lets see how this goes from here, hopefully it is the beginning of my good times. If I'm not wrong, I've applied for the position of procurement executive in DSTA, not much idea what it is about still, so gotta do some research. Yippie! Good luck!

Life as it is

Seriously, I do not have much to blog about today. I only feel like I need to write something here for the sake of writing. Well life is still the same, its already 2009 and I still have not got a new job. Not even an interview. I'm now really a 宅男. I'm practically at home all the time.

Back from KL

I just got back from KL today. Went over there for a short getaway with Mel, Vik and Hon. Well for this trip, I didn't really prepare much, even my bag was only packed minutes before I left the house. But anyway, I did have a great time in KL (although there was nothing much to do). Probably it was the company lah. Had a great time getting to know Mel and Vik all over again.

I've already been to KL umpteen times that I've lost count. So there wasn't much that I wanted to do there. I didn't have clothes that I wanted to buy, neither did I really have any foods that I missed sorely. But it was just meant to be a short and cheap trip to get us out of SG for a little while. Having said that, there was a first for this trip, it was the first time I visited Sunway Lagoon. So many times that I've been to KL, I've never been to Sunway before. So there was a little something to look forward to. Sunway didn't quite live up to the expectation, and the price. I do think that it is a little over priced, given the number of rides there are inside.

This is a map of Sunway Lagoon, looks really fun and complicated right. But I really feel that they could have done more. The rides do not really justify the price lah. Given our time constrain, we only got the tickets to 2 of the parks, the water park and the admusement park (there are 5 parks in Sunway, there is also the wildlife park, extreme park and scream park, so you'll need to pay more to gain entry to more parks). That already cost us RM48.00. The ticket to all the parks cost RM72. So I think Sunway should really reconsider their pricing, either that or they can upgrade their rides to include more stuff for the customers. Choices there are a little limited.

The most fun parts came from making fun of each other, suaning each other, and of course the drinking and clubbing. Erm, okie, maybe not that much of the drinking (they don't really drink a lot), so more of the clubbing. This time we re-visited Zouk KL, giving it another chance to redeem itself from the horrid experience I had with Hon the previous time we were here. And well it did. The place seem to have been renovated a little, the music on Saturday was great, the crowd was great (not being racist here, but there were so much more chinese this time as compared to the previous time we were there), and the party of just great. It was so crowded that we just couldn't move on the dance floor at times. People kept cutting into our circle, sometimes creating a 'highway' between us. And the most irritating part is that the crowd seem to only start cutting in when the better music is on. So we have to literally stand still for the people to move by and can only resume dancing when they have all moved, and usually by then the music has changed, nah beh. Well if you can recall Zouk the last time I was there, I sat in Velvet with Hon, there was only another table of guest other than the 2 of us. It was plain pathetic, this time round even velvet was packed. Similar to SG, Zouk has 3 rooms, Zouk, Velvet and Phuture. Velvet and Phuture was packed to the brim, the spill over were in Zouk. Overall it was a really happening night. A marked improvement from the previous experience. So at least now we know that we can visit Zouk KL on Saturday nights. Hmmm, most of the pics are with Mel (some with Hon), so gotta get the pics of 'em. Hopefully I'll remember to post them up here as well (you know how lazy I am, hahaha)

CNY is just around the corner, need to cut my hair next week, and also dye it back to black. Got a re-shoot on the 14th. Still no news of my job search, hopefully I'll be able to find something real soon. Been really off work for sometime already... 加油!がんばって!

Happy 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A warm welcome to 2009... My first posting for the new year. Well before I begin, let me first say a big big BIG, welcome to 2009. Ending with so many uncertainties in 2008, lets hope 2009 will be a much better year than before. Here's wishing everyone the best of health and wealth in 2009.

Its now 5.30 in the morning, and I just reached home not too long ago from my 'countdown'. Well it was a pretty disappointing countdown I must say. Not really a very eventful evening. We met up at Bugis, Ceasers for drinks, but there was pretty nothing else for us to do other than drink. We were pretty much stoning, looking at each other with occasional chit-chat among one another, as if we were not really that close. To a point that it seem ackward (erm, think I got the spelling wrong for this one). We were thinking of what else we could do for the night. KTV? LSB? Steamboat? Another place for drinks? There was practically nothing we could do. Well we have to take into consideration that it is the new year, and everywhere is fully booked, so without reservation, it was really difficult to get a place anywhere. We were literally getting bored. Hmmmm, is this a sign of aging? Are we getting old already? Why is it that we do not feel that kick in this anymore, well at least for the night. The feel just wasn't there.

We haven't had enough for the night. I mean it was such a waste to spend a night just like that. We had 11 people and we didn't even finish a bottle. It was so unlike us. Well in the end, we changed over to Tanjong Pagar. They wanted to go to Sebai Sebai, but that was packed as well, so we went to the pub beside it, geographer bar (which was surprisingly empty). Had another round of drinks before calling it a day. Anyway I'll be heading to KL tomorrow for a short getaway. Not exactly the place I was thinking of going. If not for the fact that I'm unemployed and I have all the time in the world, I'd probably not go. KL has, in recent years, become a annual pilgramage (spelling wrong again, I know) for me. I've been like going there every year religiously. And I don't know why. There isn't much to do there, I probably won't buy much (maybe I won't even buy anything at all). So I don't know what I'm gonna do there. Well I haven't even packed my bag till now, erm I think I'll do that before I leave tomorrow. Hope everything will be well at home during the time I'm gone.

To my family, Happy new year! I love you all! Keep healthy! Huat Ah!
